Yeah, Kotaku dug that up last week. http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2015/10/05/konami-files-big-boss-trademark
Soooo, Jim Sterling said in his recent Jimquistion that Konami filed a trademark for a Pachinko machine called “Big Boss”. So… Metal Gear Gambling is coming soon it seems.
$50? That nearly doubles the price of the game. Are we really expecting double the value of the game in quality DLC to justify that price? This is EA we are talking about.

Yeah I’d stay away. from g2a and…kingpin? king something.
Speaking of cheap games, I’ve been noticing ads for g2a on gamepolitics the last little bit. Aren’t they one of the key resellers who has had keys revoked on them since they were bought with stolen credit cards?

Doubt I have anything to add that hasn’t already been noted but I feel it’s worth a mention as there’s a specific angle I want to address.
I do plan to talk about it on the podcast tomorrow though.
Ah, too bad
In addition to being pointless (the report is being revised) and untimely (this was over two weeks ago), I have no time or interest in doing so.
Awesome, look forward to the write up of you criticizing it and how the ideas could lead to censorship.
And that’s perfectly fine. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms to make and concerns to discuss but mischaracterizing the report as some folks have just ain’t cool.
@AE that is just is, the ideas they put it were most likly going to lead to it if countries adobted them. that is why most people, including myself, did not like it.
Of course, this is all moot now as the report has been taken offline to be revised.
Oh there’s plenty to criticize, and some of the ideas could lead to censorship depending on exactly how they were implemented but the report itself is not advocating censorship and even pays lip service to being wary of censorship in our endeavors to make the world a better place.
Well, I finished reading the UN’s report and there’s nothing in there about censoring the internet.

Yuki: You claim your linked article says something it doesn’t, and that it’s full of tweets that it isn’t. The rest of us realize that Forbes’ “cover story”, as you put it, is totally reasonable and plausible, unlike what you’re shoveling.

Yuki – Absolutely no one has even commented on the alleged Terms of Service violation so no one is taking Forbes at its word. Stop putting words in people’s mouths. It’s extraordinarily distasteful. Telling people to “shut up” ain’t cool either.
(I would have said Nickelback, but I don’t know any Nickelback lyrics and I plan on keeping it that way.)
Yuki: “Then your willfully ignorant or unwiling to accept anything that doesn’t fit your view. ”
If you were projecting any harder, it would be visible from Triton.
You’ve turned into a conspiracy nut. When I asked to define a scenario that would result in you saying “okay, I guess in this specific instance, Forbes wasn’t actually bullied into removing that one specific article” — even when I explicitly said that I wasn’t asking you to say how likely that scenario was — you refused to do so. You’ve abandoned all pretense of reality and honest inquiry, repeatedly made claims that cannot be backed up by the available evidence, and have defended yourself by accusing others of “arguing facts that dont’ actually exist” [sic].
I don’t know why I’m even trying to act as though you’re arguing in good faith at this point, so I’m going to stop assuming that to be the case going forward. instead, I shall mentally replace everything you type with Linkin Park lyrics. Hopefully they will more intellectual edifying.
Mecah and Info:: You do realize your arguing facts that dont’ actually exsist. As I pointed out to Andrew, your essentially taking forbes at there word without anything to back up the claim. Something I’ve already pointed out to be a very bad idea given that media outlets have a near chronic history of being more then happy to lie or spin to CYA themselves. you can spout Ergo all day, btu your argument lacks any real weight when its based upon accepting blindly the statments of a media outlet. After all , what in the origonal article they took down violated there rules or in anyway breached any kind of rule other then challenging a narritive? Care to answer that? No? then do us all a favor, do shut up.
"Everyone needs more Epic rap battles of history in there life, if only to get them more interested in a variety of subjects" ME
AE: I already laid post hoc ergo propter hoc on him, with no apparent effect.
Oh, and I’m not letting you off the hook for earlier. You specifically claimed there was a wall of tweets in the article “…acting as if the removal or a piece from a paper was some how a good thing just cause it disputes there narritive?” Other parts may be opinion, but that directly contradicts facts. You don’t get to make up your own facts, especially when they contradict reality.
Yuki: If I said, “I ate breakfast this morning after checking my e-mail,” that’s simply a statement of two things that happened in that order. It is not saying that checking my e-mail caused me to eat breakfast. The same applies here – all we know is the two things happened in a certain order.
Maybe this will help. I’m going to bed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_hoc_ergo_propter_hoc
Andrew:: And your acting like theres a differnce? Sorry, but I don’t see it, pulling it cause your getting criticism is not different then facing a backlash for controversial statements as far as Im concerned. if forbes had any actual coruage, they’d have kept the article and offered to let someone publish a counter point, not pull the article down.
Because it doesn’t say it was pulled “due to backlash and outcry.” It says it was pulled AFTER “being hit with a barrage of criticism” not BECAUSE of it.
Andrew:: sorry, got kinda bent on that, my apologies for that, but then if your not talking forbes at there word, and theres a statmetn in the start of the article that indicates the origonal article was pulled due to backlash and outcry, why did you argue that point so fervently?
I’m not taking Forbes at its word. The only thing Forbes has said is that the article “was deemed to have violated our Terms of Service.” I’ve not once commented on that.
Then your willfully ignorant or unwiling to accept anything that doesn’t fit your view. You take Forbes at there word yet a string to tweets showing blow back against the article is in the same items I linked, and you wn’t ever consider that forbes is CYAing itslef by claiming it pulled it for anything other then outside pressure.
I know what it says. I quoted it at you and showed you’re once again wrong in your assertion.
Oh i dont take them at there word, but Im just assuming a worse case scenario. given the reactions listed in the article and the fact that, in the FIRST FREAKING Paragraph it says this .
Forbes has removed a contributor piece titled “There Is No Diversity Crisis in Silicon Valley” after being hit with a barrage of criticism from readers.
Im not makign that up Andrew, thats in the first FREAKING paragraph. I assume you read more then the company line
You’re saying one event caused the other. The article you linked is not.
But let’s say it did. Why would you take IB Times at its mere word? You said you don’t trust the media and don’t take what it says seriously so why the exception in this case?
Adrew: Im sorry andrew
Forbes has removed a contributor piece titled “There Is No Diversity Crisis in Silicon Valley” after being hit with a barrage of criticism from readers, including many leading the tech industry’s movement to hire more women, Hispanics and African-Americans
what were you saying again?
The article you linked does not say that Hall’s piece being removed was a likely result of outside complaints. You’re saying that. All it says is that one event followed the other. “Forbes has removed a contributor piece… after being hit with a barrage of criticism from readers…”
Techno: As far as Im concerned, till I see all the details on thing, Im no taking forbes at there word, given that the first paragraph states that the article was pulled as a likely result of outside complaints, I consider Forbes statements to be standard CTA Pr crap. Till I see more info, I’ll not take there word for it.
Yuki: Let’s try going at this from a different direction. Is there any scenario which a.) does not violate known physical laws, and b.) results in you acknowledging that, in this specific instance, the initial removal of the article by Forbes was not the result of “bullying” and/or “censorship by proxy”? I’m not asking you to argue that the scenario you present has any significant chance of being real, merely that it is not literally impossible.
BIG: not realyl sure I want any part of it myself big, if there not gonna do the single player, Im not really interested
Any of you pals going to be trying the Battlefront open beta (pc) tomorrow? I’m pretty bad at fps, so hoping to find fellow bads
Mecha; Sad thing is, I’ve see stuff get yanked in less then 24 hours before, though normally on small outlets. At this point, the article is Back up and im fine with that. so this arugment isn’t relaly relevant to me anymore
Yuki, it’s not that articles being yanked due to outside pressure is something that never happens, but it really doesn’t look like it was the case this time. There was barely any time for pressure to build up. 12 hours from post to removal? It’s probably the amount of time it took some editor to become aware of the post.
EZK: trust me, what you get from the media most days, far from the truth.
Still, I would suggest both you and adrew do yourselves a favor and not take me to seriously.
Like I said, it’s likely not going to matter now that the report is back up, but trust me, Im not worth taking so seriosuly , cause most days, I don’t take anything the media says seriously, cause I don’t trust it.
Yuki, I am glad that making up stuff and demanding that other people treat it as fact helps you cope with your distrust of the media. Good for you. I think the rest of us would like to consider facts though.
Andrew: You belive what you want, but personally, I’ve learned not o trust most media, and your probably right, that makes my cynical and jaded when it comes to that stuff, but it’s served me well so far on my end. Means I don’t often find myself disappointed when stuff goes sideways in regards to the media.
No matter how little sense it makes or how much evidence there is to the contrary, eh? Well, that’s fine. Kinda sad, but fine. Perhaps you’d be better served not stating such outlandish and unsupported assumptions as indisputable fact. Save us all a lot of time and typing.
Techno: one of the biggest issues I have with the modern media is that bias in the media makes actual truth almost impossible to find. It’s why I have to bounce between a dozen sources to just try and get a clear story half the time. Maybe it is just me being jaded, but at this point, Im more included to belive the worst case scenario when it comes ot media far before i’ll belive the best case scenario.
Yuki: Then do what anyone who’s ever played an Ace Attorney game has had beaten into their heads, and present us with some evidence that that’s what happened here. All you’re doing right now is going on about your own personal incredulity.
Viz, I love you, but you have to get with the times. Open Neon Alley in Canada already.
Yeah, which only adds more evidence to the pile that outside pressure was not the reason the article was pulled.
Techno:: Call me jaded or cynical, but i’ve become REALLY doubtful of any case in which an article gets pulled amid vocal blow back. Most of the time, whatever is said by the media outlet, is a smoke sceen from the actual behind the scenes issues. say what you will about the Gamers are dead kerfuffle, but at lest those outletws stuck by what the published.
I can’t really imagine any admins at Forbes thought it would be cool to have articles critical of “diversity crisis” that every one else hosts. I mean, I think it would be cool to have varied opinions on the platform, but it doesn’t shock me that it was pulled.
Andrew: most of the time when I find these stuff it’s already in an archive link anyway. Just easier to use what I have on hand then go looking for the intial link
Also, Yuki, what’s with the archive links? Because they’re shorter? It just seems like an unnecessary extra step.
But WHY do you think they were bullied into it? There’s no evidence to support that theory. You said yourself you had seen no bullying. And there’s also been no suggestion that Forbes has a history of yanking articles for any reason let alone outside pressure.
(And yes, that’s an actual conspiracy theory. Look up Project Blue Beam if you doubt me.)
Yuki: Do you even listen to yourself? You’ve decided that your claim that Forbes was “bullied” into pulling the article should be treated as axiomatic, to the point where any statements to the contrary that they themselves make are “lying about the cause”. You’ve descended into the kind of conspiratorial mindset that makes people believe in NASA using Soviet supercomputers to generate a holographic Antichrist.
On an unrelated note to the other conversation.
Un apologises for bogus cyber violence report.
Andrew: Its not really gonna matter now that the article is out there again. If forbes wants to behave the way they have, I don’t belive there claims that it wasn’t what they wanted. I think they did it cause they were bullied into it. You disagree ,thats fine, but if theres one thing media is good at, it’s lying to cover it’s own ass. And I bet forbes is lying about the cause.
Again, there’s no evidence that Forbes pulled the article just because someone complained. Think outlets should vet contributor submissions before they’re published? That’s a fine critique.
Yuki: Compelling speech and prohibiting speech are two sides of the same coin, though. If it’s “censorship by proxy” for a group to be convinced to unpublish something, then how is it not attempting to “compel speech by proxy” if one calls on that group put it back?
Andrew: Doesent matter to me anymore, Techraptor picked up the article since forbes pulled it. If forbes will pull an article at the first provcation and then blames it on them not Vetting what they allow on there webpage, they are either incompetent, or support censorship. In either case, they aren’t worth writing for and im glad techraptor took the article and put it back up.
According to the article you linked, Forbes does not vet contributor submissions before they’re published. If that’s true, Forbes did not choose to publish it; it chose to remove it after Hall published it which is completely within its editorial purview. As Hall himself reportedly said, “it was not what they wanted on the site.”
Techno: Your not thinking of that right. Forcing speech wouldb e if I FORECED them to publish it to begin with. By goverment authority or something. They chose to publish it and then pulled it due to outside pressure. Thats censorship by proxy
Also, Bobby jindals been doing that for a while, thats kinda nothing new
And on an unrelated note, enjoy GOP presidential wannabe Bobby Jindal saying stupid stuff about video games. http://www.mediaite.com/online/jindal-blames-cultural-decay-video-games-for-shootings-we-embrace-deviant-behavior/
Yuki: So it should be permissible to compel a person or organization to publish speech, under their name/identity, that they themselves disagree with? And if they decline to do so, then that can be considered censorship?
Because that kind of seems like something that’d render the word “censorship” meaningless at best. So I don’t want to think that’s what you’re implying, but I honestly can’t figure out any coherent alternative implication.
Andrew: Sorry bout before, my phone was being a douche with spelling. What I was trying to say Is I suspect that the that the complaints which were mentioned were essentially people trying to bully Forbes into pulling the article. Otherwise, there isn’t any reason to pull it in my view. If they pulled it for the reasons you cited, there either incomptent or unwilling allow for argument against an esisting narrivtive, if they pulled it due to outside pressure, there cowards who let a screeching minority bully them into censorhip. Either way is abbhorent to me.
From what’s been presented, the most you could say is that the critical tweets brought Forbes’ attention to the fact that an article they may not have wanted published under their banner had been published under their banner.
Yuki: None of the tweets are calling for the removal of the article, firing of the author, etc. And since the author was an outside contributor, you can’t even really say that Forbes was backing down on what they wanted to say.
Andrew: my suspect on is that the complaints which were mentioned we essentially people trying to bully Forbes into pulling the article.
Yuki – What bullying? Where? All I see is people disagreeing (and some agreeing) with the article and saying so. I don’t even see anyone suggesting the article should be removed.
Andrew: I don’t like any censorship. Just flat out. Be it by government or by proxy. I don’t think they should have ever pulled the article. Also my quote came from the articles top. What Forbes claims is the reason to cover it’s as doesn’t hold weight with me. And it’s fine for someone to dispute or even author a counter article, but to just bully Forbes into taking it down was not right.

@Yukimura: No. No, I literally did not see such a wall of tweets. Were you referring to a different article? The one you linked had tweets saying things like “Been a while since I read a piece so stunningly out of touch”. No one asking for it to be taken down, no one happy it was taken down, just people criticizing it (and some complaining after it was taken down).
@Masked I can’t imagine it’s technically legal at all to sell games without being a licensed dealer. Though I would bet a lot of old pubs/studios are out of business and can’t sue, leaving a ton of games in a sort of limbo.
Also, it goes without saying but speaking out against the idea that there’s no equality problem in the first place is a logical course of action for those whose goal is equality.
Serious question here, what’s the legality of selling marked reproduction carts? There’s a place up here selling them, with the disclaimer of “yes, these are repros, not bootlegs”.
Yuki, just out of curiosity, where exactly do you draw the line here? At what point do you consider it okay for Forbes to pull a contributor’s article?
To quote the article: “Forbes said the article was removed for violating its terms of service, which include discrimination… According to Hall, ‘Forbes told me it was not what they wanted on the site.'” Also: “Though Forbes vets its contributors before bringing them on, the publication does not oversee their content before it is published, according to one of the publication’s contributors.”
If the Forbes consumers don’t want to see articles that support meritocracy, that’s fine. Like Target not wanting to stock GTA is fine.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc?
Mecha: To quote the article.
Forbes has removed a contributor piece titled “There Is No Diversity Crisis in Silicon Valley” after being hit with a barrage of criticism from readers, including many leading the tech industry’s movement to hire more women, Hispanics and African-Americans
I do think it sucks that they took it down, but I’m not seeing anything to suggest either that they wanted to publish it in the first place, or that feminist pressure is what caused them to remove it.
Where does Forbes admit that, Yuki? From the article you linked, all I’m seeing is that they took down an article from an outside contributor, that they had not necessarily vetted in the first place.
Actaully , I’ve never advocated to have articles pulled, even if I disagree, I’ve voice my disagreement and arguments against it, but I won’t say ti doesn’t have the right to exsist, weather I think it’s retarded or not
Pulling articles because of outside pressure is censorship (when we like them and just CONSUMERS SPEAKING UP when we don’t)!
Forbes out and out admitted to pulling the article due to outside pressure , most likely from the same peopel cherring that the article got pulled. Far as IM concerned , thats censorship by Proxy.
Changing your mind is censorship!
Info: did you NOT see the wall of tweets acting as if the removal or a piece from a paper was some how a good thing just cause it disputes there narritive? how is trying to pressure publications from not publishing this kind of article any better then people demanding books be burned cause they don’t meet a “goverment narritive’ as it occurs in other countries? Censorship is censorship, if you publish something, have the balls to stand and face the consequnces
So, you see the higher-ups at Forbes deciding that’s not the kind of thing they want there, and decide feminists want censorship. Question: Did you see any feminists demanding it be taken down (and more to the point, was this a common reaction of feminists)?
Another example of what Modern feminists really want. Not equalty, but to Silence anyone who doesnt’ tow the line .
Forbes pulls article arguing there is not diversity crisis in silcone valley. The international.
I saw some gifs of one of the monsters from that game float on a few artists’ tumblr pages. Reminded me a lot of Bayonetta that particular one did.

eath, I’ve had good luck with Origin speeds since DA:I came out. Similar to steam for me
They probably won’t have to put in much, there are plenty of people who do nothing but open cases on youtube, and they make quite a bit money, atleast enough to pay for the cases they open.
I am glad I have a good internet connection. 75/75, but even than that is going to take some time to download it (40GB) because I doubt EA servers are as good as steam’s.
I dunno what kind of weapons and mods they’ll have to even sell cases
I’m not just curious about how broken Battlefront will be, I’m also curious how horrid the microtransactions will be.
Kind of wonder if its running on mantle/vulkan since they’re running an amd card tho

Stock cooler gpus in SLI just sounds like trouble. NVidia did do that neat thing with their backplate at least, has like a little panel you can take off to increase flow
I don’t know about on fire, but it’ll probably melt people’s processors, including TotalBiscuit’s monster of a machine.
Battlefront will most likely set your computer on fire
So, how horrifically broken do y’all think Star Wars: Battlefront will be at launch? Ridicule-worthy glitches that spawn a bunch of funny memes or full-on unplayable?
http://www.pcgamer.com/star-wars-battlefront-system-requirements-released/ these are the weirdest system requirements a i3, but 8 GB of ram. on the recommended specs its only a i5, but a whooping 16 GB of ram.
Basically pulling a Fox.
SciFi also aired the episodes completely out of order.
It’s a good series. 4 is arguable the worst, but in my opinion it’s still a good movie. Though not as good as the previous three. The TV series was pretty good too, but SciFi (now SyFy) canceled it in it’s prime.
I was gonna buy the dvd collection of the tv show when I ordered the movie, but reviews made it sound like the quality sucks, from resolution to aspect ratio.
Ah well, ordered the Swat Kats dvds instead to get free shipping.
The original? 25.
I remember liking the original movie, but I can barely remember the sequel. Jeez what was that, 20 years ago?
There’s a Tremors TV show too.
I didn’t even know there was a tremors 3 or 4
Huge fan of the franchise. Looking forward to checking it out.
On another note, Tremors 5 released today. Can’t wait for it to come in the mail from Amazon~<3

I think that’s in all browsers. EZK has tried to fix it but it didn’t work. Yeah, it’s annoying. Hopefully we’ll figure a way to fix it.
Can someone please fix the homepage? Under Firefox, the gallery at the top causes the text below the box to shift up and down one pixel. It’s rather distracting.

They’re getting criticism because of ethics in game journalism, of course!
Speaking as someone with no love for Anita. Really doesn’t seem like they should for this report.
Trusty, Anita and Zoe had nothing to do with the drafting of the report. So why should they get any criticism for it.
But have we told you about our lord and savior Cyberviolence?
I’m very, very, very aware of the report’s numerous criticisms.
that is why I when on about how I do not like or trust the un a few days ago. anyone who supports that can bugger off. I will defend free speech til my death.
@AE @ezk not only is the report shoty, its suggestions are crap. zoey has denounced the report because of it. it outright says the un should censor the internet
I mean both Zoe quinn, The UN and Anita Sarkeesian knew that the Cyberviolence Report Was not going to fly over with everyone to begin with. I think that’s why they may have backpedaled
Here is the Techdirt article about the report that has it embedded: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20150927/13460532378/un-broadband-commission-releases-questionable-report-cyber-violence-against-women.shtml

AE: When you moved Infophile’s comment, you orphaned my reply to it.
I’ve dealt with OBS, and no, it’s not as complicated as people make it out to be. BUT, it does look like it is. hangouts in comparison looks like a single button compared to OBS’s NASA console. Plus, plenty can go wrong with it, from bitrates and what not. Also, side note, incase you couldn’t tell, I was being badly sarcastic earlier 😛
Besides the simplicity in it’s use, hangouts also doesn’t have to deal with lag issues caused by skype and OBS running at the same time, nor bandwidth constraints. With hangouts, when talking to everyone else, you’re getting one video source, no matter how many people you are talking with (I think? never really used hangouts personally). Where as with OBS and skype, you’re getting video source from every single person you’re chatting with that has video, along with streaming your video to them, AND streaming another video to the stream service. So a limited speed can cause issues that hangouts would have less of an issue with.
Oh come on, OBS may not be super intuitive but it’s not exactly rocket science either. I mean, hey I get it. People think the ease of use of Hangouts outweighs the work needed to accomplish what some believe to be a better viewing experience. That’s totally reasonable, just mentioning a personal distaste I have (as a viewer) for the end result
If only people were to learn how to use something complicated like Open Broadcast Software, and a video chat client that takes up a lot of processing power like Skype, and then get it all configured to work without any hangups while streaming. And do all that without taking the more simpler route! On a non-badly sarcastic mark. There needs, if there isn’t one already, be a option in hangouts to display the talkers side by side. The automatic detection on who is talking/active isn’t really…. that well done.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escapist-podcast/57500-Crowdfunding-Podcast Escapist podcast goes in depth on their recent star citizen article. Man I wish people would move away from Hangouts. I get that it’s easier, but the pop ins are jarring

Incidentally, there IS something in the original version that could be an ethical issue (and it’s something I’ve been investigating) but oddly, it’s something you’ve never brought up.
And the questions remain: 1. Why did anyone think the original article was not on the up and up? 2. What about my article appears to have not taken something seriously? I took the time to look into the issue, compare the original and revised versions, independently talk to the book author and a few people at Polygon and report my findings with quotes and links.
Andrew:: hey, didn’t say you weren’t right, just pointed out that to alot of people who initially saw it ,and some who saw your artilce, they didn’t think it was on the up and up or that your article treated it seriously > Personally I was fine with accepting your article as correct, others, not so much. Like i said, it is KIA, so they tend to be ultra skeptical about this stuf anyway and don’t have any love for GP most days, so you can probably just disregard it.
“whitewashing it as a ‘nothing to see here’ viewpoint” I deliberately used the wording “appears to be” when reporting the reason for the byline change. That said, unless someone comes up with something indicating that money changed hands or there’s some relationship between Owen and Polygon or one of its staff, then there genuinely is “nothing to see here.”
“the website made me and others think it was some kind of Free advertising” So, you DID know it was a book excerpt. And yeah, it is free advertising and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
And my article is not poking fun anyone’s mere skepticism; the barbs are aimed at obnoxious behavior, stupid threats, baseless accusations and nonsensical conspiracy theories.
Sorry but there’s simply no avoiding the fact that the original version of the article is clearly labeled as an excerpt. Hell, it includes a picture of the book and links to two places you can buy it. But hey, sometimes you make a mistake. That happens. But own up to it; blaming others for your goof is seriously uncool.
Also note, they didn’t exactly like your tone about some peoples skepticism regarding the article. Then again, I don’t think they like you in general to be honest. IT is KIA after all
Andrew: Most everyone online who saw the initall report that I saw mistook it for some kind of article, and no only later did the Excerpt thing come up. The layout and presentation of it on the website made me and others think it was some kind of Free advertising thing going on with Poloygon, which didn’t exactly sit well with certain groups. Granted , among those groups, Polygon had a bad reputation already. so they were happy to look for anything that looks fishy to lambast them . When they changed the by line, some groups, myself included, got more suspicious. and while I was willing to accept GPs report , theres still some who view it as whitewashing it as a “nothing to see here” viewpoint. Just so you know.
Yuki – You keep saying things like it needed “better presentation and upfront clarification” but as I’ve repeatedly pointed out (once with a direct quote) the article as it originally appeared was clearly labeled as an excerpt from Owen’s book so I don’t see how you could have possibly confused it for anything but.
On a semi related note, at the beginning of the month, one of the things I look forward to is the Dolphin monthly dev report. So much fun goodies~<3
It might be why they set it up in the country that they did.
Sora: That sounds like a casue i could get behind, if I didn’t fully expect Nintendo to step in and shut ti down any day now
Dolphin started a Foundation with the goal “a non-profit with the goal of preserving games and hardware long after the hardware to run them is gone. “
Adnrew:: When I first ran into it, I almost thought it was a a paradoy, cause it looked like something i’d see as a joke on other webpages, and cause of the labeling ,i thought ti was just poloygon being themselves, ie , less then exemplars of the craft as it were. When they changed it, that didn’t help to elevate the issue, though it did make the source of the material more clear. Now that they’ve clarified what happened, it now makes moer sense. As i said, better presentation and upfront clarification fromt he beginning woudl have prevented this to the begin with.
I like Lizzy but you guys may want to look into the Escapist Star Citizen piece. https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/3n6ti6/unverified_update_on_the_escapist_starcitizen/ KiA talking about some quotes found elsewhere
How did it not appear to be an excerpt? As I pointed out with a direct quote, it’s clearly labeled as such. No publication I’m aware of has ever used the author’s name on the byline of an article highlighting an excerpt of that author’s work. Have you always found this confusing?
The initial item itself, in the original item it didn’t appear to be a excerpt but some kind of article, and the marking of it as Polygon staff made it seem as such. Again, it appears to a be a case of poor labeling/ presentation, rather then an intentional attempt at anything sketchy. till have my doublts about polygon, always will , but in this case, glad to be wrong about this case.
Again, what was poorly labeled?
Adrew:: So it jsut boils down to some bad labeling in that case. I get it. Guess I’ll give them a pass wait to see what happens next.
Didn’t disclose what connection? And it’s clearly labeled as an excerpt, not an opinion piece of their own: “In ‘WTF Is Wrong With Video Games?’ [Phil Owen] sets out to lay bare all the fundamental issues with games… We’ve included a brief excerpt of the first chapter…”
Andrew: It was less that and more that they didn’t simply disclose thre connection to tha matter to begin with, making it look less like an excerpt, and more like some kind of article they were writing. Im fine with them publishing it, so long as they disclose there connections to it honestly.
Is this an ethical problem? Doubt it, I see it more as a journo just being a jerk. Another journo all too willing to point fingers at GG because it’s just so hot right now
Yuki – Did the “Polygon Staff” byline make you think that the excerpt from Phil Owen’s book that was clearly labeled as an excerpt from Phil Owen’s book was actually written by Polygon?
I’m far more interested in GG getting blamed for the patreon hack by the Observer, then the author realizing it wasnt GG, but still making half the story about GG because why the hell not
Now maybe if it was found out that homeboy was a room mate of, or the friendly neighborhood drug dealer for a polygon employee. Then shilling his book would be cause for concern, but as far as I can tell, that isnt the case
It wasn’t a paid advertisement, so there was no need for a disclosure on that front
Andrews article already addresses this man. It was “polygon staff” posting the article about a book they like. Not an article tossed up by Phil himself. It was changed to phil seemingly just to shut people up. It’s all ok
Andrew: that it was specificly phil owens work. Remember, they first put it as polygon staff, even though it was an excerpt. Since they changed it to the actual author directly, does that techically make the change a case of full disclousure?
Full disclosure of what?
On that subject, does them changing the name to Phil owns count as full disclousre on that ? I think it does technically.
Nice to know the polygon thing wound up being mundane, doesnt make poloygon any less sketchy in my mind ,but at least in this case, its just polygon being a bit confusing in there publishing.

Unfortunately, that didn’t make 4chan any less, well, 4chan.
So is GG getting blamed for the oregon shooting yet?
sad to say, but they got used. if I am asked to talk about a issue along side of the release of a report, I would insist on reading the report first. they got used in a very bad way.
Sigh, I need an edit button. Anyways, I’m not surprised people would have thought they support it, but zoe has already denounced it as over board
I understand that it doesn’t necessarily mean they agree with the report, I don’t think it takes that big of a tinfoil hat to believe they were there to support it.
Haven’t read the report yet but it’s on the to-do list.
Perm – I’ve long advocated all E3 Conferences be hosted by the Kevin Butler character.
Andrew – I think the point was linking them to a report containing these things. The link occurring because supposedly they were advocating what was in the report, but Zoe doesn’t seem to like it
Number of times they advocated censoring the internet? Zero. Number of times they advocated censoring anything? Zero.
Number of times they said anything about censoring video games? Zero. Number of times they said anything about video games at all? Zero.
I really wonder why they even let executives out on stage. They always seem so awkward. Ubisoft bringing out Aisha is so much better.
I finished watching the UN meeting. Here are a few fun factoids about Quinn and Sarkeesian. Number of times they used the phrase “cyber violence”? Zero. Number of times they referred to, mentioned or cited the Cyber Violence report? Zero.

I don’t know about getting tired of games, in general. That would be like getting tired of watching tv or reading books. You might get tired of one particular show or genre, but not everything. It might be possible to get tired of playing games critically though. Eventually you will just want to play games that you like and ignore everything else.
Like, I love cheesecake. But if every day my job was centered around eating cheesecake, I might get tired of it
I kind of wonder if these gaming media folk just play so much more games than the average consumer, that they wind up burned out, or disenchanted.
Techno: It’s specificly a riff on Phil owens latest book, the first chapter of which got put on polygon under some Scummy pretenses, but basicly what it boils down to is tycho is Riffing on owens writing as being ” I love video games so i act like I hate them to try to make them better”. he’s basicly saying Phil owens is full of BS in a funny, if not exactly direct manner.
There’s a hacker named GamerGate that has infiltrated Patreon https://archive.is/mgfOq
Yuki: I think I’m missing something about that comic, because the underlying concept isn’t that far-fetched. It’s very difficult to truly get angry about something if it doesn’t actually affect anyone or anything that you genuinely care about. Which Tycho should be well aware of; I mean, if nothing else, it’s hard to imagine that someone who fancies himself a scholar of the English language would be unfamiliar with the simile “like an old married couple”.

btw I am not ignoring the issue, but the UN’s history here almost certainly means the will use this issue to try to take control since their last attempt failed.
@ezk but when there idea of how to fix it involve taking control of it, hell no
I thnk a big issue with the Un report, and the issue of “Online haressment” in general has been that many have begun to feel that some people are severaly abusing the issue as a platform for there own personal crusades and that it’s detracting for real conversation abou the issue itself.
That’s my favorite quote out of the UN meeting so far.

eath, it is fine that you don’t trust the UN. A lot of people don’, including myself. But don’t dismiss real issues, such as online harassment, just because someone you don’t like is addressing it.
I trust the un less than a politician. the un has been trying to take control of the internet ever since their telecommunications treaty failed a few years ago.,, so I do not care the un can bugger off.
Are you under the impression that EZK and I would try to bury that factoid if we discussed the UN report on the podcast?
@Andrew Eisen: Just promise me that, when you guys do get to the UN thing, you’ll call specific attention to the part where it cites Lyndon LaRouche’s wife.
@Big_Perm we may have to wait until it launches
But does it have horribly deformed face glitches?
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/assassins-creed-syndicate-has-microtransactions/1100-6431044/ Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Has Microtransactions
At the end of my shred I was able to press three plates. Yay me!
Oh yes, that’s much better than that eye-searing yellow. I don’t remember if I wrote it or Dennis did and quoted me but I recall my “oh God my eyes!” quote being used in the GP article noting the last redesign.
The ESRB has updated their website. It is a long time coming and the site looks pretty nice. http://www.esrb.org/
Somewhat related (and possibly already covered) France is attempting to force Google to remove listings globally, not just in the EU, under the “Right to be Forgotten”: http://tinyurl.com/nw2qqgc
I think the Popehat blog points to some language advocating for governments to require compliance from companies in efforts to combat harassment. Not sure it actually lays out any specifics in measures wanted tho
Andrew, It is because deep down you are really just a masochist. Admit it. You love this kind of stuff.
I don’t know why I waste my time with this but I went back over all of Yuki’s links and unsurprisingly, absolutely nothing in any of them show that Sarkeesian or Quinn are advocating censorship of video games or the internet.
Hmm… maybe Duck Hunt Dog? No… too much emotion… Maybe Otacon? No, still with the emotion thing…. hmmmm…… Oh! Maybe Shattered Glass Soundwave!
What do we get if we subtract Yuki from Andrew? 😉
Cminer – Yuki = Mattsworkname
Perm – You haven’t missed anything, we just haven’t had a story on it. Why not? Time. There’s actually a ton of stories we’re not getting to because we all have to work. Hopefully, we’ll be able to make GP profitable so James and manage the site full time and we can cover even more interesting stuff!
Did Yukimura previously go by a different name here?
Unless I just overlooked it somehow
By the way, it does seem odd you guys haven’t put something up about the U.N. panel. I mean, with the video game related personalities involved it would make more sense than Snowden being on twitter
As for your insistence that the HuffPo article fabricated its evidence, you are calling into question all the conveniently deleted tweets and Facebook posts that GamerGates insists support its opinion of its enemies.
Yuki, You have in no way shown that Anita and Quinn want to censor the internet. What you have shown is that they attended a UN panel on cyber violence against women. Then at a later date the panel released a report that Andrew and I have both admitted is troubling in its citations.
…in order to portray subjects in a far worse light than is justified by reality (e.g., Shirley Sherrod).
And as far as your decision to use Breitbart to support your claims that Sarkessian is pro-censorship, please try again when you find a source that doesn’t have an explicitly demonstrable history of selectively editing the information they release…
Flat-out fabricating evidence isn’t really consistent with Huffpo’s past behavior. Being way too credulous about woo, yes. Dancing merrily across the line between sponsored and actual content, also yes. But just flat-out fabricating Facebook posts due to moral outrage, not so much.
Top hats and Champagne explains why so many people are sick of the SJW bs, in a very interesting style.
It’s already in the list of links, granted theres Ton to pour over, but its there, Feel free to review them at your leasure, have a good rest.
I said no one’s advocating for censoring video games. I never said anything about Sarkeesian or Quinn arguing censorship of the internet. That said, I see absolutely nothing indicating that’s the case either. But hey, I may have overlooked it. Feel free to provide the relevant quotes. I’m going to bed.
So your logic is, a wall of links showing Anita and quinn arguing for censorship of the net, is somehow, not them arguing for censorship? and you don’t see how that doesn’t pan out? Games, movies, Comics, the net, Censorship doesn’t EVER stop with ONE item, and if your not open minded or honest enough to admit that, even to yourself, then I suggest you go chat up a history teacher about censorship through history.
The glove doesn’t fit. And I’ve showed you that you’re wrong at every turn simply by pointing out that what you link to doesn’t support what you say. There’s only so much I can do to prove a negative.
If the glove Fits andrew, or are you perhaps getting so aggrivated casue maybe it strikes a nerve, maybe you are a bit like one Iron Patriot in you mentallity. If im wrong, then, by all means, show me such, but you arent’ gonna have any better luck finding proof against my claims as HE did. Remind me again, whens the last time we heard from hiM?
Knock it off with that “you’re blinded by your narrative” crap. It’s seriously aggravating and truly offensive. I’m not agreeing with you because almost everything you link doesn’t say what you say it says and all of your assertions are completely baseless.
Ah. So you simply don’t agree that his comments constitute a rape threat. That’s a completely different thing. And it appears the man was fired, not specifically for making a rape threat but for, like Thompson, not conducting himself in public in a manner befitting someone of his profession.
IM sure theres others who would disagree Andrew, least at times anyway. you and I don’t every really agree, which is fine, but your just as prone as anyone when it comes to not being willing to look at anything beyond your own narritive
No, jack thompson got pulled from law practice for being A VERY BAD LAWYER. I find nothing in the article or cited items that any rational person would conclude validates her claiming a rape threat and costing him his job
And the pot and kettle thing doesn’t apply here.
Guy acts like an unconscionable jerk and loses his job over it. Doesn’t reek of BS to me. Sounds very plausible. After all, that’s exactly what happened to Jack Thompson.
Oh hi pot Im kettle have we met? Seriously, look at that material and tell me it doesn’t reek of bs. you can ignore it if you like ,i get that, but I don’t, Im tired of people being willing take this BS at face value anymore.
No evidence, just baseless and often nonsensical assumptions.
Also, as for the huffpost article, faked, made up, possibley complete bs, YES!. I do, I would never put it past huff post
Andrew: come now, it’s not any leap in logic that if they are willing to censor the net, then games are on the target list as well.
Are you suggesting that all the screenshots in that Huffpost article were faked? And no, nothing you posted indicates that Sarkeesian and Quinn are about censoring games.
K then andrew, I’ll stop, think theres enough out there to give a good cross section. I’ll only post any other really good items I find, But I think I showed that yeah, Quinn and sarkesian are not about fairness, there about censorship.
Andrew, anyone with a basic level of common sense can see that the supposed evidance huffpost cites is bullshit. Not that I expect you to actually look at anything they post critically, you and I both know you dont do that. Also, more on the UN thing, from front page mag
Okay, Yuki, I think that’s enough links to UN stuff. Anyone interested can do their own research at this point. No need to link every article that’s ever discussed it.
I hate to be this mean but it’s a really dumb, baseless, nonsensical theory.
The actual text of the Huffpost article you linked does not at all support your claim.
For those who want to see the reports citations broken down, heres a good site to refer to.
For more balance, heres the mary sue article
Amazing, how the only ones treating it like a posistive are Polygon. Gee, and they wonder why there numbers are stagnant.
Heres new york magizine, and for comparison, polygon
Heres Popehats take on it.
Again andrew, its’ just a theory, until we get the specifics about who actualy wrong the orignal article and why Polygon suddenly changed the author name, thats all it is
Andrew: Starting with good old Breitbart, heres there article about it, wit ha nice big picture of Anita and Quinn front and center.
You theory makes absolutely zero sense.
I think it as probably an third party contributor that Polygon didn’t want to name to avoid making the whole thing seem even more scummy, Granted, i can’t prove that theory, it’s just a hunch based on there efforts to try and hide there connection to teh article. I’ll get you those examples, IM currenlty mining records and history for the un stuff I saw the other day. In the mean time, Heres a huffpost item that shows that SJWs will lie to get people fired.
Fine, fork over some examples of people calling for game bans or claiming games make you sexist.
Not necessarily a lie. And why do you think it’s unlikely the article was written by either the Polygon staff or Owen. Who was it written by then?
Andrew, Only someone willfull ignoring the actions of those in the AGG movment would think that, though given the MASSIVE divide between to the 2 sides, Im not suprised, as the problem is wide spread both online and in the media.
EZK already shared that link this morning but that’s okay. It’s a good read.
It’s not my perspective. No one (except maybe some random anonymous numbnuts on Twitter) is calling for games to be banned or suggesting that games make you sexist, that everything is sexist, or everything is racist. That’s an absolutely false premise.
Andrew:: its wrong if a site blatenly lies about it by first claiming it’s written by there staff, then trying to make it look like its’ written by the author, where in odds are NIETHER is likely true, and they didn’t disclose the connection.
Andrew, it starts with a false premise only from your perspective.
Also, tech dirt on the UN cyber violence thing.
I don’t see that riling anyone up. Rolling their eyes and sighing? Sure. Lightly chuckling while shaking their head? I could see that.
Can’t think of it being put any better? Dude, it starts with a false premise.
Because so what? Nothing wrong with a site pimping the work of one of its own writers.
Ohh, got a comic, gonna get teh AGG folks riled up, but I can’t think of this being put any better.
And heres why polygon is a den of shoddy , unethical non journalism
New article about phil owens book goes from being by Polygon staff
To being suddenly written by Phil owen himself:
Remind me again, why should anyone trust these guys about anything they write?
Also, andrew is right, a crafting system is fine if it’s well implemented, the problem is lots of games try to tack on crafting systems when they don’t really belong.
Super nerd land on the Un cyber violence report.
Long story short, it’s so shoddy it wouldn’t even pass high school standards
I like what I’ve seen of Fallout 4’s crafting system. Want to craft some doohickey? One of the things you’ll need is an adhesive. But, you can use one of a number of different things: tape, glue, wad of gum, etc.
Monster Hunter! It’s craft-tastic!
I’m surprised it would even be as specific as a scissor blade instead of generic metal scrap
There is nothing wrong with crafting systems in general. It is only the implementation of a crafting system that can be bad. A shiv can be made from a single scissor blade. No reason to need four of them.
I like crafting in games. It might be out of habit I guess, just from playing MMOs for years
Video game containing events that don’t happen has marketing material with things that don’t happen. This is cyberviolence
Crafting systems are the spawn of the devil and should be purged from all games going forward. They’re useless and just exist to fill up a runtime.
I think is funny because people are to dam lazy to look at the account its coming from. it was very clear from the get go it was marketing.
I guess we know one topic that will be discussed in this weeks Podcast. Let’s see what other crazy things people do.
Oh hey, look! We have a shiny new article to discuss this very topic!
Check out @CallofDuty on Twitter. What do you all think of Activision’s marketing campaign? Funny? Tacky? Inappropriate?
That’s not what he’s saying either. I would seriously suggest reading the article again.
no his argument is games do allot of contrived things that movies do not do. my counter is that making the game fun needs to come first, and that games should not be compared to films for that reason.
After The THPS5 Debacle that everyone is laughing over, At least EA and Ubisoft Couldn’t do any worse than that with Star wars battlefront and assassins creed Syndicate, then again, to be on the safe side I’m not Pre ordering anything besides Amiibos
Uh, no. Owen’s argument is absolutely not “crafting systems do not make real world sense.”
Just like movies, games do have to make compromises for the sake of making an enjoyable experience. For example, yeah, it makes no sense that I have to find a key for this wooden door when I could probably kick it down or use my rocket launcher. Would a more sturdy door make aesthetic sense? We certainly don’t want to get rid of the rocket launcher; they’re too much fun!
If you sub to TB on twitch, they did a pretty good discussion on comparing movies to vidya, on the Co Op Podcast
he overall argument on that point is crafting systems do not make real world sense, but that is the point most of the time you can not do that to make a good game. you need a complex and most of the time unrealistic system to make it interesting.
To use The Last of Us as an example, instead of making a one-use shiv out of four scissor blades, something that sounds over complicated for a shiv and super duper sturdy to boot, perhaps make the ingredients something more fragile that would conceivably break after a single use.
Logically according to the rules of the game’s universe? Yes. As for the two-foot wall, it depends on the game and its style, but if it’s there to block your way so you find another path, it might be better to use a different obstacle.
think about it, have you ever seen a game level and said this area is logically laid out? I havent because real world areas for the most part dont make for good game areas.
is it though? yes the player not being able to clime a 2 foot wall doesnt make logical sense, but its needed for level disgin reasons. there in lies the reason the 2 become very hard to compare.
The art resulting from the article is better than the article itself http://imgur.com/l4hnVo9
Maybe nothing at all! But I still find that the more interesting discussion. Probably because I love problem solving.
As is usually the case, I think the two opinions are opining right past each other. I think the more interesting discussion is what could The Last of Us have done differently to accommodate both view points.
I think “worthless” is a bit much. I don’t believe the fact that games are interactive and movies are not means the two can’t be compared.
there is a lot I agree with in the polygon article, but the compassion to movies is flawed, and worthless because movies are not interactive.
Here’s developer Damian Schubert’s critique of the book excerpt that appeared on Polygon yesterday. http://www.zenofdesign.com/games-are-not-movies-and-shouldnt-try-to-be/
Yep, haven’t read it yet myself but from what I’m hearing, the report could have, at the very least, stood another proof read.
@AE ok @BDX it seems that the UN broadband commission is the most stupidest organization on this planet, as their report helps no one. as the report(on cyber bullying) is a mess with broken links, someone putting the contents of their own hard drive in a citation, debunked research(especially from nut jobs like JT), and stuff that needs citation.
I don’t think you got carried away and there’s nothing wrong with posting a video (so long as you let us know what it’s about and who it’s from). If that video is an accurate representation of the game, then it is indeed a glitch fest.
@AE I may have gotten a little carried away with my recent comment regarding THPS5 being a glitch fest but I wanted to post the video after showing the article right away
Not to mention that it is funny that the United Nations used a long since debunked report from LaRouche that mentions Grossman and Jack Thompson and ignores facts, such as violent crime rates continuing to be down across the board.
Proud supporter of the New Orleans Saints, LSU, 1st Amendment; Real American; Hound of Justice; Even through the darkest days, this fire burns always
Any report that quotes nutjobs like Lyndon LaRouche and Lt. Col. David Grossman is garbage. If the UN is serious about ending cyberbullying, they should rewrite the report removing the citation of LaRouche. Then again, when you have Saudi Arabia in charge of the Human Rights committee, can the UN even be taken seriously on women’s rights?
For everyone to see the Glitch ridden Mess that is THPS5
I’m getting EuroGamers Video right now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIXkRXYbKaI
Someday we will look back on the industry’s habit of releasing broken games and laugh.
[sarcasm]At least the Ragdoll physics Work[/sarcasm]: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 is a hilarious glitch-filled mess
Skullgirls has some amazing animation and wonderfully creative character design. Makes me wish I enjoyed playing fighters.
Hey, a new Humble Bundle. You know, the real thing not the fake ones they do every other day. It has Skullgirls. https://www.humblebundle.com/
Goodness, that is a bad citation! Thanks for the links EZK! I still want to read the report itself but it’s great to see some well-argued criticism.
Haven’t read any of this yet but I have heard one of the 120 cited sources is bunk. Almost certainly not worth disregarding the entire report over but certainly a teachable moment for the authors: triple check your sources!
I think the intent is noble. We should be working together to end online harassment and online violence toward all people, but the UN is not going about it very well.
Something very concerning is that they cite a report from an organization that is closely affiliated with Lyndon Larouche. Yeah, that is bad.
On the UN Report, this Techdirt article (which links to two Ken “Popehat” White articles) highlights some of the troubling aspects of the report. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20150927/13460532378/un-broadband-commission-releases-questionable-report-cyber-violence-against-women.shtml
Whatever you think of the term “cyber violence,” surely those are conversations worth having, issues worth addressing and solutions worth finding. Wouldn’t you agree?
As far as you poo-pooing the UN and Google Ideas discussions as well as the Broadband Commission report, I take it you see no value in attempting to address issues of hate speech, hacking, identity theft, online stalking, online threats, swatting, targeting people in an attempt to get them to commit suicide, human trafficking, illegal sex trade stuff and more?
I don’t see how this will lead to the site’s destruction. The only people I can imagine feeling alienated are those gamers who blindly lash out at any mere suggestion that video games aren’t perfect in every single way.
“The idea that the gameplay and the story are working in tandem, or that they should be, is not part of the discussion all that often. For a medium everyone claims is inarguably art, that makes no sense — being that a work of art is generally an idea or sentiment communicated through whatever form that work actually takes.”
The article is an excerpt from the first chapter of a book written by one of the Polygon editors. In the excerpt, it talks about how video games often struggle marrying gameplay mechanics with the game’s story and world.
Yuki – As for the Polygon link, I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that you read nothing more than the article title as I see absolutely nothing in the piece that should alienate readers.
Yuki – Remember the Shout Box rules. If you link a YouTube video, you have to inform us who it’s from. I’ve removed the Shout. Feel free to repost it.
The evidence is “kinda thick”? Fine. I challenge you to provide three pieces of evidence that “feminists are trying to ban and take away games.”
Yuki – I don’t believe Wu was at the UN or Google Ideas thing. That was Quinn. Regardless, Sarkeesian, Quinn, Wu and their ilk are not trying to ban or take away our games.
You can’t “just admit” something that’s blatantly untrue.
Yuki, no problem. It is understandable that you wouldn’t know. We do try to approve comments as quickly as possible.
EZK: Now you tell me ,I was thinking someone had started locking down teh shout box. I clearly have not been getting enough sleep lately. Sorry for the outburst
It isn’t moderated. It is just that all new registrants need one admin approved comment before commenting is unhindered.
Hey, since when did the shout box get moderated?
Also, nice to see polygon is apparently still intent on destroying itself by alienating the people who should be it’s readers.
You know, Given the recent un fiasco and the presance and claims made by Wu and Sarkessian there to, can we just finally stop acting like they arent about censorship and just be honest. Oh, and whens jim sterling gonna admit that “YES, in fact feminists are trying to ban and take away games”.
Just saying, the evidance is getting kinda thick here.
While the ESRB rating may be free for apps, it does mean getting roped into a contract with said anti-piracy organization.
Well, it’s more in media in general, but they did focus on games for a minute or two.
TestTube Plus’s topic of this week is Stereotypes. Today’s episode was on Racism in Games. For those who are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGyfcX2n4xY
https://www.vg247.com/2015/09/24/ea-survey-hints-at-netflix-style-subscription-service-for-games/ I higly doubt ea can pull this off, but I think someone will.
I agree. FPS games benefit greatly from high frame rates. That said, I don’t recall any gaming site, let alone a swath of them, opining the contrary.
it was largly over first person shooters, and yes the game feels different at 30 or 60 fps.
Tournament fighter not running at 60 fps? That can have a huge impact. But again, I don’t recall a trend of gaming sites poo-pooing 60 fps, in and of itself.
Depends on what specifically they were talking about. Were their complaints that a visual novel wasn’t running at 60 fps? Then they were indeed making a big deal about nothing.
@AE a few years ago allot of those sites, sites that are now talking about how god 60fps is, were arguing that pc players made a big deal about nothing.
not sure to be honest. seems like a bunch of people started talking about it again.
eath, That tweet is from 4 years ago, why is it being drudged up now?
BFeely, the ESRB rating you need is 100% free to get. You create an account and apply for a free rating. Nothing else to it.
I also don’t recall “most gaming sites” claiming 60 fps doesn’t matter.
Without the context of the rest of the conversation that comment looks like nothing more than an anecdotal factoid, not an argued position.
https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/119507163545731072 i dont care if studies do say that, that is messed up. ps I dont think she is advocationg that, but you cant blame people for taking it that way.
Regarding eathdemon’s shout out regarding among other things the ESA please note that to get an app on Google Play or Firefox Store you now have to get an ESRB (aka ESA) certificate. Seems Firefox is moving away from its freedom-first stance. Same with Google Play.
http://www.polygon.com/2015/9/28/9410675/uncharted-2-train-level-nathan-drake-collection-1080p-60fps-train-level-fight-sequence this is funny. I remember not to long ago most gaming sites were claiming 60 fps doesn’t matter, and here they are talking about how good it is.

Course it would help to spot the errors within that time limit. Also, on that page you can see full text without hovering, and links are clickable.
@MechaTama31: If you go to the bottom of the shout box, and click all, it’ll take you to a dedicated page where the shouts are kept. You can edit form there, but only for about 5 minutes after the post was made. There is a time limit on post editing.
https://twitter.com/GameOverGreggy/status/647947782649544704 not big news, or important, but its interesting to see kinda funny switch to obs
Wish I could edit out those extra e’s I type in quadruplet… :/ I had drupelets on the brain. Sweet, sweet drupelets…
“1jhn1:9” is a bible reference, to 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
I found a secret code in the GlaDoS video. I noticed that on the long sustained note, those quadrupelets of characters alternate between periods and commas. Treating periods as 0’s and comma’s as 1’s, and skipping the first quadrupelet to end up with a multiple of 8, it spells out “1jhn1:9”.
ups my bad it didnt load in til after I posted it.
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/09/riaa-chief-says-dmca-is-largely-useless-to-combat-music-piracy/ I have said it before, but I will say it again I would love the RIAA, the MPAA, and the ESA to be destroyed they serve no public good and are clueless.
twitchcon is apparently just selfies and people saying the word “content” like 90% of them dont just chat over video games
Well when it comes to the levels, either there are only four stages avaiable (includes the intro state), or five stages can’t be accessed till you beat certain stages. I’ll have to play more to be sure, or someone else can find out 😛
MNo.9 Update: The Special Demo version has been released. New release date is now Feburary 9th for NA, 12th for everyone else (I don’t understand why there is a date difference…) I’ll check to see what the special demo entails when I get home.
http://imgur.com/a/MELF9 Pictures of the work so far on the day theme.
here is the current WIP of the day theme http://pastebin.com/WmHXZ0DU There is a lot of left over from the night theme, which I’m using as a base. But it should give you an idea what I’m trying to go with. Some of the colors I’m not all that happy with, but we’ll see how that goes later. Atleast I remembered to have the background image link to an actual image instead of to a local image this time
http://www.polygon.com/2015/9/25/9396835/new-portal-song-lego-dimensions yup another song from glados, and its very clear that she misses her doughtier (the main character). not as funny as the first 2, but still funny.
http://pastebin.com/phQgs7Pf So, I started work on the day companion theme, when I noticed… I forgot to change a URL for one of the two images. It was directing to a file on my computer, not the one I had uploaded to imgur. So, here’s another relink to it for the update
http://kotaku.com/heres-what-a-publishing-deal-with-ea-looks-like-1732940729 Here’s What A Publishing Deal With EA Looks Like
And then I forgot to link to that video. So here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIFE7h3m40U
Not gaming related, but Tom Scott did a video on The Art of the Bodge. In it he mentions one of my favorite Windows Tools: Auto Hot Keys. hee~<3
@Big_Perm: While not silly, I have given thought on doing a day counter part to the night theme I’ve been mentioning and linking. Primarily because of the gradient effect I did with the background. Possible next Projecrastination. Should be easy, since the framework is all done. … Annnd I just realized that I didn’t color the footer. Something to remember to do tomorrow…
I met Mercedes Carrera tonight. We’ve written about her before so that was pretty neat.
Now that’s some fan service http://imgur.com/3HxCrFE
Actually, silly optional themes does sound kind of neat
Why would Konami put Quiet in a character action game? They’ll just stick her in a pachinko machine that makes her clothes fall off.
Ooh! What about Ponies wearing Quiet’s costume? Yes!
GP Membership Perk: Replace all the ads with My Little Pony art! Or MGSV’s Quiet. You know, if you’re into that…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEYYC5Hq014 Kingdom Hearthstone – Mash Up ft. TB, Jesse Cox, LDShadowLady, Trolden, wowcrendor, Michele Morrow by Polaris. I find this parody funny.
Another update to the Night Theme http://pastebin.com/phQgs7Pf For the most part it’s done, maybe a few color tweaks here or there. What I did with the Poll I’m not 100% happy with it, but there is only so much I can do with it.
I could also do a Viewer Participation Live stream on Twitch(Gamepolitics Arcade) if the Patreon campaign does well for everyone involved on GP for example If a person Recently donated to the Patreon Campaign, they can join a multiplayer co-op or Multiplayer Battle Royale against their fellow players(provided The person Has the Game and if necessary the DLC for said game)
For real tho, I do wish they could figure out a game centered on Quiet. Like her own spectacle fighter or w/e.
http://www.destructoid.com/bioshock-mysteriously-zapped-from-apple-s-app-store-312306.phtml Tens of people inconsolable after BioShock is completely removed from the Apple environment.
You should mock some membership benefit concepts. Such as replacing ads with pics of Quiet in her tactical bikini. Also, I have no idea what I’m talking about
Trying to think what is left for me to do on the night theme… The poll colors still need to be tweaked, and the comments area needs a border… fix the border on article headers… colorize the tag links.. and… not really much else.
Is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate as broken as Unity? -Sigh- Here we go again http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/assassins_creed_syndicate/preview-3945.html
Probably going to be another one of those “few if any articles until this evening kind of days.” Sorry about that.
Oh, I don’t doubt there’s going to be some problems at launch. I remember BF4. I just also don’t doubt there’s already some fixes in place for beta, that alpha hasn’t had yet.
@Big_Perm, We’ll probably find out later when the Game comes out, and IF it comes out as a High profile Completely broken game, People are going to get furious at both Disney and EA over the Mess that they caused with Battlefront
To be fair, an alpha build the tester is playing could possibly be several builds behind a current dev build, yeah?

I find it hard to justify paying for xbox live when MS servers are such a hot mess. I don’t understand why download speeds for x1 and ps4 are so bad
So the answer is “We want people to use and pay for XBox Live”. That is what I thought.

I was seeing how you could constrict the size of the ads to be more uniformed, instead of popping out of the sidebar like they have been. Unfortunately, they’re iframes within iframes within iframes. While I was able to constrict the size, it cuts off a good portion of the ads off. They aren’t setup to auto adjust their size…
They are Google ads. We get a little bit of money for every ad impression (every time they appear on a page someone viewed) and more if they are clicked on.
Question about the ads, do they generate revenue based on clicks or views?
@Big_Perm I picked up Blood Bowl 2 the other day and have been messing around with it a bit, It’s fairly fun so far in single player but it seems it will really shine in MP
and now with screenshots! http://imgur.com/a/0M7oX
Just made a few quick edits to it (same url), such as: forced the article slider to have a forced max height, cause that was annoying me.
http://pastebin.com/phQgs7Pf Updated the night theme I’ve been working on for GP. I’m not happy with some colors, but I am looking for feedback. Reminder: It requires Stylish installed to use.
Yeah, my start with GP has JT origins too. I wouldn’t recommend a card though. He took great offense when sent a bunch of flowers.
@EZK: alright. @AE: To be honest, if it weren’t for JT, some of us would of never joined up on GP. So we atleast have him to thank for that. Maybe we should send him a thank you card.
@Trusty, Yep. We published the SAG story this afternoon.
@Sora, That timer is intended. Not sure how well it works and I am looking for a non-timed solution.
Have I mentioned recently how awesome our readership is? Y’all are awesome. Well, we banned Jack Thompson years ago for being less than awesome but the rest of you are aces!
Not game or politics related, but a friend linked this, and I feel like sharing. http://i.imgur.com/5fm7Cuc.gifv
@eath that makes sense. Have to wonder if any games currently in late dev are going to be affected tho
@Sora I think I get what you’re saying now. I guess I just have trouble understanding how a lack of mobile data across the country can affect my hardware transmitting and receiving wifi signals in my own home
Anyone messing with bloodbowl 2 yet? Never played the original
@Big_Perm: In a way, yes. This, as previously stated, is a Physics issue. Everything that communicates via wireless that isn’t via laser takes up a radio frequency (or radio band). There is only a set range of frequencies we can use, and each one also creates overlap into other frequencies. This is why there tends to be quite a bit of range between radio stations when you tune. Sometimes there is a frequency where you can hear two or more stations at once. And the more radio frequencies we use, the more cluttered it becomes and the less available frequencies are available. It also doesn’t help that not just the government, but also some corporations have “bought the rights” to certain ranges, which a lot is going unused due to the result of. So yes, even your wifi router contributes to the problem, it gets most notable when you are in an apartment building, where other tenants are using wifi routers as well. In those cases the quality of the connection drops. Now imagine that at a larger scale of cellular networks, even satellite networks. Same thing, bigger scale.
Sora – I’m not sure if the timer is on editing comments is intentional or adjustable. I’ll have to ask. As far as the article slider, yeah, I noticed that too and informed EZK so it’s on the to-do list.
@big this wont efect game dev that much. vo people are not neeeded til late development.
Man. I don’t look forward to a halt in game development, but it’s hard not to root for the voice actors. There’s always second life I suppose

Is folk watching youtube on their phones going to slow down my netflix?
@Sora Is the wifi on my home network somehow limited by cellular data?
Message for EZK: Mind setting the article banner that cycles through various articles to have a max height? It’s shifting height by a few pixels is shifting the entire page.
cellular is a form of wifi. It’s all radio bands. Same with Radio stations and CB Radio.
Wait. I can understand running out of cellular data bandwidth, but wifi? Dude is linking pictures of stuff that uses wifi
So I noticed there is a timer on the edit for comments, is that a intended feature now?
@big yes we are running out of wireless spectrum. that is a physics thing, bandwidth is effectively infinite, just build more cables.
Not exactly. A couple years ago it did a video on the finite amount of bandwidth we have over the air. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuqmKg6QQTw
Isn’t extra credits the guy who said we’re running out of internet?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL5kOyHWI_E by extra credits on frame rate, and why its important.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pRDRCorx14 I will now talk about how games get featured on my channel for just over 45 minutes by TB. he lays out how he ends up choosing games to cover, and the type of PR he ignores
You can’t stop this guy. He’s a rebel!
I did it

Yes. Unfortunately, this poll plugin allows us to log by IP or account but not both.
