I wonder if Random Tower will get a shoutbox, or something. That’s really all that I’m missing when looking at that site.

If you don't like something I said in a post, don't just hit the dislike, let me know your thoughts! I'm interested in knowing everyone's opinions, even when they don't mesh with my own.

Just a friendly reminder that today is the 10 year anniversary of Mother 3 and we still don’t officially have it.

  3. Adam802 ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

This site should be preserved as a chronicling of the “game violence war” and of the industry’s victory. Its an important part of gaming history now.

  4. Cecil475 ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

Just dropping by and reading some articles. Currently reading the one where Yee is sentenced to five years and fined $20,000. So, hello to any one still hanging around.

Well, least the birthday dinner at Tokyo-ya ramen house was good. Despite my sister trying to make me feel older…

Auf wiedersehen GP, it’s been an entertaining number of years.

  9. blackmanta ( User Karma: 5 ) says:

Sad to see you go! 🙁 Where else could i go to keep track of all the political efforts involving video games? Or cover Jack Thompson, for that matter? I’ll miss you guys.

  10. Cecil475 ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

It’s been fun Gamepolitics. Got lots of good memories here through the years. Take care everyone!

This site will be greatly missed. Gamepolitics was a huge thing for me and my family and I have enjoyed the times I got to be a guest on the show with Andrew & the gang. I will continue to follow and talk to you all, but this site will be greatly missed! You all did a GREAT job with Gamepolitics…you should have nothing but pride for your actions.

  15. TrustyGem ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

I’ll do one major Twitch stream tonight to honor the Gamepolitics.com era by streaming some games through xbox one and maybe PS4(I’m not going to be able to stream tomorrow due to going to a philadelphia Phillies Game). I’ll post the link to my twitch tv stream in the shoutbox around 7:30-8:30 PM eastern

  16. Adam802 ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

Farewell GamePolitics! We fought, and won, the good fight! Let us take this final day to appreciate all we accomplished!

  17. MechaTama31 ( User Karma: 6 ) says:

I love how St John talks about knowing “hundreds” of successful indie developers, and uses that to suggest that if you go indie, your success is all but guaranteed as long as you are passionate enough. I’m sure there are many thousands of failed passionate indie developers. Some of them may even now be the people St John is wagging his smarmy finger at.

  18. Infophile ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

I’m going to guess… some abuse of copyright (possibly to suppress another of Andrew’s videos).

  19. Infophile ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

Question of the day: What will be the subject of the final (non-goodbye) post? Nintendo/EA/Ubisoft doing something stupid? Jack Thompson appearing from out of nowhere? Something related to Gamergate? Let’s place our bets!

  20. MechaCrash ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Handy bit of context: the first article is written by Alex St. John, founder of WildTangent. WildTangent is a shovelware publisher.

  21. ZippyDSM ( User Karma: -12 ) says:

Working harder is all well great and fine but what happens when the system in place be it goverment or employment makes you suffer more as so the guys at the top can have another vacation home?

  22. Infophile ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

I always hate when people use a phrase like “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” to mean the opposite of what it’s supposed to mean. “A few bad apples” has the same problem

  23. Craig_R. ( User Karma: 1 ) says:

Let’s face it, Mecha’s summary of said argument is being used regularly by a certain segment of people. Bootstraps, anybody?

  24. MechaCrash ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Let me summarize the article: “you should be glad to sacrifice everything and throw yourself into a meat grinder to make video games, and how dare you expect to be treated like a human being.”

  25. Infophile ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

Thanks for the tip-off, EZK, and good luck! Looking through your site, I’ve got a fair number of comments. I’ll probably compose an e-mail to you about them so as not to clog the shoutbox here.

  26. eathdemon ( User Karma: -2 ) says:

wish you luck. campaign management and applied policy is what I was trained in.

  27. SoraHjort ( User Karma: 5 ) says:

So.. Moving this weekend… Just checked my email… also got beta access to Overwatch. God damnit.

  28. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Interestingly, the photos are actually pencil sketches. That rather surprised me.

  29. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

“Participants were shown one of two photos of an adolescent girl who had been physically beaten by an adolescent boy. Participants rated whether they felt sympathetic, moved, compassionate, tender, warm, softhearted, disregarded and indifferent for her” on a 1 – 7 scale.

  30. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Live action Pokemon? You know, put the Henson Company in charge of the Pokemon and I might watch it.

  31. Infophile ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

@TrustyGem: I had to click through that link to see if it’s actually a new story or one of multiple ones I’ve seen before. Sadly, it’s new. This has happened before, and apparently it’s still happening. Every time the media exposure forces Sony to fix that particular incident, but they never seem to change.

    1. ZippyDSM ( User Karma: -12 ) says:

Well edge of tomorrow was not that bad. But a total conversion and adaption are separate things, since most reboots are more TC’s they tend to suck… I think it’s silly that they need star power so badly to cast her…then again I am against Idris Elba for being the main character in Dark Tower, 8 times out of ten the first few films of an IP dose not need to toss out charterer fundamentals, of which race is one. For something like Bond that has a ton of films made, ya a Black or Lesbian bond would easily work.

  32. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Luck is a huge part of it but if you make a good game that people want to play and make it easily available for a reasonable price without consumer unfriendly stuff like DRM, you’ve got one hell of a leg up!

  33. MaskedPixelante ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

Hey, maybe you wanna sign out of Steam for the next little while. Reports coming in from all over of a bug that lists updates for all your installed games, sometimes as big as the games themselves.

  34. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Oh, “hanged” was supposed to be “changed,” wasn’t it? In other words, some Japanese games have been altered to avoid an AO rating. Yes. The article says that. I specifically mentioned it. It’s something gamers have been complaining about for years and years. It’s not limited to Japanese games or sexual content either (Manhunt 2, for example).

  35. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

I’m just not seeing where you’re getting the idea that “AO games shouldn’t be blanket banned” is some revolutionary and controversial new idea as gamers have been calling for that longer than even GamePolitics has been around.

  36. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

I’ve come across literally zero people who have expressed such a fear. Every gamer I know would prefer either the AO rating didn’t exist (because it does absolutely no good) or that AO games weren’t blanket banned on consoles (and services like Twitch). I also have no idea what you mean by “a few Japanese games that end up getting hanged.”

  37. eathdemon ( User Karma: -2 ) says:

atleast no one wants to talk about it for fear of looking like they are advocating for porn games. while not for me, there a few Japanese games that end up getting hanged, so they can avoid the ban hammer that is the Ao rating. the devs said as much. I think we can side step a decent amount of controversy by lifting what is a ban in all but name.

  38. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Oh well. All we can do is keep talking and POLITELY, CALMLY, and CIVILLY explain why we have a problem with this or that change and in many cases, why it was unnecessary and counterproductive in the first place.

  39. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

I also don’t agree with “vote with your wallet” because companies don’t take that to mean we’re dissatisfied with the localization, they take it to mean “oh, you’re not interested in these games? Okay, we won’t bother bringing them over at all.”

  40. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

But when the game is already targeting a mature audience, none of the original content would earn an AO rating, and the content that’s left unaltered is the same or worse than the content that was removed or altered, then it makes no sense.

  41. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Changing character names or just the spelling so the average American can pronounce it? Understandable. Replacing references or culturally specific stuff that would be lost on other territories? Understandable. Removing specific images that would get an AO rating? Understandable.

  42. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

Always interesting to hear from the people doing the work but unfortunately the article does nothing to explain the long list of baffling localization decisions that don’t apply to the various reasons the article gives for making changes.

  43. ZippyDSM ( User Karma: -12 ) says:

Could run a simple donation thing for the shoutbox on a month to month or 3 month deal, then expand to forums if enough support shows up. I doubt it just a thought.

  44. TrustyGem ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

I May be planning to do a Live stream of Ratchet and clank on PS4 through Twitch.tv tomorrow(as I’m not going to get the game today), and I did reserve a copy of the game awhile back just to get the Bouncer Weapon in the game. until then I will be on Star trek online today playing the New mission that came out, Temporal Front in the future proof arc

  45. TrustyGem ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

@infophile I seconded that Motion, I actually like the shoutbox to begin with(as I post Some news in the shout box that shows a What were they thinking moment(in terms of Plans) in the Gaming industry)

  46. Infophile ( User Karma: 3 ) says:

BTW, any chance of putting up a shoutbox over at Random Tower? It’s one of the features I really like here.

  47. ZippyDSM ( User Karma: -12 ) says:

However I loath the whole cultural appropriation argument. I can not find anything good and segregating off designs and themes be it trinkets, hair styles or anything else……. humanity grows from mixing and making new be it ideas, themes, art, design, ect
    .

  48. ZippyDSM ( User Karma: -12 ) says:

People are treated poorly due to a lack of empathy, humility and ethics in general.

  49. ZippyDSM ( User Karma: -12 ) says:

That said I find the objectification argument lacking. Stereotyping is nothing more than a slot to pull like things out of. And over sexualization sells as its an easy to go to stereotype. Theres nothing wrong in defining it and calling IP creators out on being cheap. But it reminds me of the violent fiction argument, theres correlation but no causation.

  50. ZippyDSM ( User Karma: -12 ) says:

SJW works better than a few 90s slang IMO. However in general any pejorative against most of them is silly. The more outspoken ones tend to be the ones that have as many issues as the other side claiming a right to be sleazy and being an arse about it.

  51. Adam802 ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

QB is a great game and I expect it to do well down the line. It was also at the top of the UK chart, so it’s good to see it’s doing well at all.

  52. Andrew Eisen ( User Karma: 4 ) says:

MP – Ryse: Son of Rome (2013) and Sunset Overdrive (2014). Still, not very impressive. It’s one of those lame stats that movie studios use all the time “um, highest-grossing film with a grey-haired dog that released on the second Tuesday of February!”

  53. YukimuraSanada ( User Karma: -5 ) says:

Anyone who buys Nintendo’s claims about SNES emulation has never been part of the scene, as SNES emulation has been possible on hardware far weaker then ds hardware,it’s Nintendo’s OS and restrictions on software that limit the 3ds, and there claims are just them covering up the incompetence in the market.

"Everyone needs more Epic rap battles of history in there life, if only to get them more interested in a variety of subjects" ME

  54. MaskedPixelante ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

There was no sinister motive to putting SNES on the New 3DS, that was probably just Nintendo admitting that the system didn’t catch on, so they may as well do something to keep the user base from realizing the huge mistake they made buying one.

  55. MaskedPixelante ( User Karma: 0 ) says:

I believe Nintendo when they say SNES emulation needs the new hardware. I played Earthbound on mine, there’s still a tiny bit of slowdown on it. I can’t imagine how bad it would be on my launch 3DS.
