Disabled video game industry executive needs your help

Friends and family of Nick Grange - a former video games industry executive who has worked for such companies as Apple, Activision and Microsoft's Xbox division - are looking to raise £10,000 to fund a specially designed mobility vehicle.

Grange was in a very serious car accident in 2014 that left him partially paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. He spent five months in a coma and nine months in the hospital recuperating.

The vehicle will enable him to visit his daughter, who lives over an hour away.

Summer Games Done Quick raises $1.2 million for charity

This year's Summer Games Done Quick, a speedrunning event under the auspices of Games Done Quick for charity, ended this past weekend and managed to raise $1.2 million for the Doctors Without Borders charity.

This year's total is an impressive jump from last years' event total, which clocked in at around $700,000. During the Awesome Games Done Quick event in January, the organization managed to raise $1.5 million. And the latest numbers will probably change because organizers say that donations are "still coming in."

Northport, NY teen brings Sony and PlayStation to town

A Northport, New York (a village in Suffolk County, New York on Long Island's North Shore, in case you didn't know) teen has the distinction of being the only teenager in America to be selected among those whose created a video for the PlayStation contest "My Road To Greatness." In addition to being spotlighted by Sony in an upcoming video that will appear on its highly trafficked PlayStation Blog, the teen's home town of Northport will get to play Sony games at a special one-day event for the community.

Redditor becomes Bungie's new community manager

Chris ‘Cozmo23’ Shannon, the man who created a subreddit dedicated to Bungie's online-focused shooter Destiny, has apparently impressed Bungie so much that it has hired him.  Shannon has been hired as the company's new community manager.

"It’s my honor to be the latest player plucked from the community to assist in its management," Chris ‘Cozmo23’ Shannon said. "I now aim to better serve the larger Destiny community alongside those who create and maintain the game."

DARPA launches five new games on Vergiames portal

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has released five new games as part of its ongoing initiative to crowd-source bug detection via its Verigames portal. DARPA launched the portal in 2013 and is pleased with the results - it claims the program has helped it over hundreds of thousands of annotations from regular everyday non-coding users.

Reddit Donating Ten Percent of 2014 Profits To Ten Charities

Reddit announced today that it will donate ten percent of its income from 2014 to charity and it is letting the community choose which ten charities deserve to get the money. Reddit earned around $8,276,594.93 in 2014, which means that it will donate $827,659.49 to ten charities, or $82,765.95 each.

Jennifer Ann's Group will be hosting a session at the Game Developers Conference next month about how video games are one of the most effective ways about raising awareness about teen dating violence and teaching prevention skills to teens and adults. The session will be led by Jennifer Ann's Group executive director Drew Crecente, whose daughter Jennifer Ann Crecente was murdered by her ex-boyfriend on February 15, 2006.
