Activision Blizzard (NASD:ATVI) will replace Pall Corp. (NYSE:PLL) in the S&P 500 after the close of trading on Friday, August 28. S&P 500 constituent Danaher Corp. (NYSE:DHR) is acquiring Pall in a transaction expected to be completed on or about that date pending final approvals.

Activision Blizzard Q2 net revenues revealed

Activision Blizzard revealed earnings for the second quarter that ended June 30, 2015. The company reported GAAP net revenues of $1.04 billion, compared with $970 million for the second quarter of 2014. On a non-GAAP basis, the company’s net revenues were $759 million, as compared with $658 million for the second quarter of 2014.

Activision Blizzard tells SEC it does not use 'conflict minerals'

In a new filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday Activision Blizzard said that it has no reason to believe - based on information from its various suppliers - that it is using conflict minerals to fund armed conflicts in Africa or other countries, GamesIndustry.biz reports. The filing is to show that the company is in compliance with provision in the Dodd-Frank Act Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

Delaware court approves Activision settlement with shareholders

A Delaware court has approved a $275 million settlement to shareholders who felt that the management of Activision Blizzard had grossly enriched themselves and left investors out in the cold after it bought back Vivendi SA's stake in the company. The court also approved the $72.5 million fee to lawyers who represented plaintiffs in the case. The settlement was reached last year.

World of Warcraft subscriber numbers decline

The latest subscriber numbers for World of Warcraft's show that the long running MMO is in a period of decline. The subscriber numbers were revealed as part of Activision's latest financial results.  Blizzard's MMO is still popular enough to keep the attention of 7.1 million subscribers, but those numbers are down substantially from the 10 million subscribers the game enjoyed back in November.

Activision unconcerned about Skylanders competitor LEGO Dimensions

Today Warner Bros. Interactive announced LEGO Dimensions, a toy-based game similar to Activision's Skylanders series, Disney Infinity, and Nintendo's games that utilize amiibo figures. The game being developed by Traveler's Tales will leverage LEGO-branded properties such as DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago, Back to the Future, and more. WB revealed a $100 Starter Pack which features Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle toys, with more to be revealed at a later date.

Activision: 175 million 'Call of Duty' games sold to-date

Activision released an infographic today showing the cumulative sales of its popular Call of Duty series since 2010. According to that infographic the company has sold 175 million Call of Duty games. Call of Duty has also generated $11 billion in total lifetime revenue, according to Activision.

Other data in the infographic:

- Over 100 billion multiplayer matches played to date.

- More than 300 million grenades chucked by players.

- Around 579 billion in-game awards have been earned by players.

Former 'Call of Duty' lead designer comes home

It turns out that you can go home - and even after you sue dear old mom and dad, apparently. It looks like former Call of Duty lead designer Todd Alderman has returned to Activision's Infinity Ward studio. You may recall that Alderman was one of 38 members of the "Infinity Ward Employee Group" who sued Activision in early 2010 for $75 - $125 million for unpaid bonuses the group claimed it was owed for work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Acceleration Bay Claims 'Call of Duty' and 'World of Warcraft' Violate Six Patents

Acceleration Bay LLC has sued Activision Blizzard Inc. claiming that two of the company's biggest franchises violate six of the patents it holds (Civil Action No. 1:15-cv-00228-UNA). We do not have access to the filings or exhibits as of this writing. Acceleration Bay appears to a patent holding company and does not produce any products or services with these patents, according to what we found on its web site. Activision Blizzard has not issued a public statement about the case.

Report: Activision Abandons Two Trademarks

Activision Publishing has cancelled (or abandoned) two trademarks, according to a report on Games Cabin. The first is a trademark for Radical Entertainment's catch-phrase "Play, Work, Live, Breathe, Games." The company, which Activision acquired in 2005, is best known for developing Scarface: The World Is Yours, Crash: Mind over Mutant, Prototype, and other titles. Currently the studio serves as a support team for Activision.

Analyst: 'Call of Duty' Franchise Sees Year-Over-Year Decline in Sales

Activision Prevails in 'Angry Monkey' Military Patch Lawsuit

The United States District Court for Northern California has sided with Activision in a case brought against it by military patch maker Mil-Spec Monkey, Inc. for including one of its trademarked patches in Call of Duty: Ghosts. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Seeborg said that the plaintiff's trademarked Angry Monkey patch used by Activision was covered as protected speech under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

CCP Games Shuts Down Fan-Made 'Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines' Project

A fan-made project to recreate the Troika Games-developed Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (originally published by Activision) using Unity has been shut down by CCP Games.

CCP Games owns the popular vampire-themed RPG world now, and according to the group behind Project Vaulderie, it has sent them a Cease and Desists letter. The non-commercial remake has been put on hold, but the developers are continue to explore ways to make the project a reality at some point.

PSA: Free Trial Available Now for 'Destiny'

Bungie has released a free demo (or trial depending on what platform you download it on) for its first-person online focused shooter Destiny across all platforms the game is available on. The demo gives players a small taste of the Destiny character creation and progression systems, story mission content, and cooperative and social activities.

On Xbox One and PS4, the Destiny trial requires 20 GB of disk space, while the Destiny demo on Xbox 360 and PS3 requires 6 GB of free disk space.

Activision Blizzard Reports Record Third-Quarter Results

Activision Blizzard reported record third-quarter earnings, with year-over-year increases in revenues and income based on sales of its hit franchise Destiny and continued growth with World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. On a GAAP basis, the company reported sales of $753 million, way up from the $691 million from the same periods a year ago. On a non-GAAP basis, the company reported net revenues of $1.17 billion, way up from $657 million in the same period a year ago.

Sony Issues Advisory for PS Store 'Call of Duty Advance Warfare' Customers

Sony has issued an advisory for those who pre-ordered and pre-loaded the digital version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on PS4 through the PlayStation Store and couldn't get the game to work.

Court Dismisses Manuel Noriega's Lawsuit Against Activision

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega against Call of Duty maker Activision. In his lawsuit filed in July, Noriega claimed that his likeness was used without his permission in Treyarch's first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. In the game protagonists Alex Mason and Frank Woods track Noriega (codenamed False Profit by the CIA) to the outskirts of Panama City.

Noriega sued Activision for the "blatant misuse, unlawful exploitation and misappropriation for economic gain" of his image in Black Ops 2.
